How to record a Twitch stream on your Mac

Short answer

While the channel is live, paste its twitch.tv link into Fetchii and press Enter, then click Start Recording. Fetchii records the stream as it airs and stops cleanly when you stop it, the stream ends or the time limit in Settings → Recording is reached, saving the recording as an MP4 by default.

Step by step

  1. Make sure recording is on

Open Fetchii → Settings → Recording. Enable livestream recording is on by default; while it's off, live links are rejected.

  2. Copy the channel link while it's live

Copy the address of the live channel page, for example twitch.tv/channelname.

  3. Paste it into Fetchii and start recording

Paste the link into the link field and press Enter. Fetchii recognises the live broadcast and shows Livestream Detected. Click Start Recording.

  4. Stop when you're done

Click the stop button on the recording's row, or right-click it and choose Stop recording. Fetchii finishes the file and moves it to your download folder. If the stream ends first, the recording stops by itself.

Please note: Record only streams you have permission to keep, such as your own broadcasts, and respect the streamer's wishes and Twitch's terms.

More you can do

Set a time limit

Settings → Recording → Max recording duration stops and saves a recording after 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours. The default is Unlimited.

Record several streams

Up to 5 recordings can run at once; the default limit is 3. At the limit, new recordings are refused rather than queued.

Record from the browser

With the browser helper, right-click a live Twitch page and choose Record with Fetchii.

Save past broadcasts

A Twitch VOD link downloads like any other video. See how to download videos on your Mac.

Questions

Does Fetchii record from the start of the stream?
No. It records from the moment you click Start Recording.
What format is the recording?
The container set in Settings → Downloads → Container format: MP4 by default, or MKV or WebM. Files are named with the stream title and the start time ({title} {datetime}), which you can change in Settings → Recording.
What happens if my internet drops?
Settings → Recording → Reconnection has an Auto reconnect on disconnect setting, and the Livestream Detected sheet has a matching switch, but Fetchii can't promise to pick a recording back up after a dropped connection. If the connection doesn't come back, the recording is marked Stopped early and keeps what was recorded until then; the inspector (⌘I) explains what happened. For long recordings, use a stable connection and check the downloads list now and then.
Can I record other sites?
Yes. The same steps work for YouTube Live, Bilibili Live and other live sites Fetchii can read. See how to record a YouTube livestream.
